Privacy Policy
How Lightning Developments handles personal information
This policy explains what personal information I collect through Lightning Developments, why I collect it, how I use it, and the rights people have under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
Last updated: 20 April 2026
This website now includes point-of-collection notices on key forms so IPP3A information is shown where people actually provide their details, not buried in a footer like some kind of legal scavenger hunt.
What I collect
I collect personal information that people choose to give me through this website, including names, email addresses, phone numbers, company details, project information, and other information submitted through forms, tools, or direct contact.
I may also collect technical information such as browser, device, IP address, pages viewed, and referring source through website analytics, security logs, and spam-prevention systems.
Why I collect it
I collect personal information so I can respond to enquiries, provide access to free tools, assess project fit, prepare proposals, improve the website and tools, and communicate with people who have asked to hear from me.
Where a form gives a more specific collection notice, that notice also forms part of this policy.
How IPP3A applies on this website
Under the New Zealand Privacy Act, IPP3A requires businesses collecting personal information from someone directly to tell them key things at the time of collection. That includes what is being collected, why it is being collected, who will receive it, whether providing it is compulsory, and their right to access and correct it.
Lightning Developments now provides a collection notice on website forms so this information is shown at the point of collection instead of being hidden only in a footer link.
Who I may share it with
I may share personal information with trusted service providers that help me operate the business and website, such as website hosting, database, analytics, spam protection, scheduling, and email delivery providers.
I do not sell personal information. I may also disclose information where required by law, to enforce legal rights, or to respond to a valid legal request.
Storage and security
I take reasonable steps to protect personal information against loss, unauthorised access, use, modification, or disclosure. That includes access controls, reputable cloud providers, backups, and security practices appropriate to the sensitivity of the information held.
No website or online service is perfectly secure, but I aim to keep data collection limited and proportionate to the purpose.
How long I keep it
I keep personal information for as long as it is reasonably needed for the purpose it was collected, for legitimate business records, and to meet legal or tax obligations.
If information is no longer needed, I may delete it or de-identify it.
Access and correction
You can ask for access to the personal information I hold about you, and you can ask me to correct it if it is wrong.
To make a privacy request, email rupert@lightningdevelopments.com.
Overseas providers
Some of the service providers I use may store or process information outside New Zealand. Where that happens, I expect those providers to protect the information appropriately and I limit sharing to what is reasonably necessary to deliver the service.
Cookies and analytics
This website may use cookies, analytics, and similar technologies to understand website usage, improve performance, and protect against abuse. These tools generally collect technical and behavioural information rather than sensitive personal details, but they may still be personal information under the Privacy Act depending on context.
Contact
If you have a privacy question, want to make an access or correction request, or believe your information has been mishandled, email rupert@lightningdevelopments.com.
If we cannot resolve a privacy concern, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner in New Zealand.
